Announcement on LGR
The Government has announced that Local Government Reorganisation (LGR) is being paused pending a review. This includes proposals affecting Gloucestershire. This is an unexpected announcement which we know will prompt many questions from all stakeholders across our county.  We are seeking further information and will keep our member councils up to date. Link to government announcement

The Role of County Associations in LGR

Cllr David Francis, vice-chair (member services) of NALC, shares practical lessons from Northumberland's experience of LGR and the creation of a unitary authority. Drawing on first-hand involvement in the 2009 reorganisation, he explains the background to local government reorganisation, the stages involved in the process, and the key decisions that shape the transition from district and county councils to new unitary authorities. He highlights the role of county associations: influence the relationship between new unitary authorities and local councils, contribute to implementation planning, and support the creation of new parish and town councils where appropriate
